Fashion Recap: 2013 Emmy Awards Red Carpet

Fashion Recap: 2013 Emmy Awards Red Carpet

Television’s best were honored last night at the 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, and, as with other award shows, the hottest stars walked the red carpet beforehand. As such, we have a bunch of swoon-worthy fashion to discuss! Let’s get right to it: read on to check out our favorite (and least favorite) looks from last night.

Top 5 Best-Dressed

In no particular order, here are my picks for best-dressed at this year’s Emmys:

Michelle Dockery in Prada

If you read CF regularly, you’ll know I’m a sucker for a good color combination, so naturally I was drawn towards this gorgeous two-tone Prada gown worn by the equally gorgeous Michelle Dockery. The ruby-red and burgundy halter-neck dress had a distinctly ladylike vibe, which Michelle accessorized with a matching clutch and jeweled sandals. Fred Leighton jewels finished off this sophisticated color-blocked look.

Padma Lakshmi in KaufmanFranco

Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi stunned last night in an icy blue column dress by KaufmanFranco. The sheer open back showed just the right amount of skin, while the tiny cut-out detail on the torso added an on-trend touch. Padma then glammed up the sleek frock by accessorizing with a bold arm cuff and matching gold statement earrings.

Kerry Washington in Marchesa

Kerry Washington always brings her fashion A-game to red carpet events and last night was no exception. Her ethereal, blush-colored Marchesa gown had a romantic feel, which the Scandal actress complemented with an embellished clutch and soft waves. On anyone else, the combination of the ribbon-like bodice, blossom appliqués, and long train might have looked too over-the-top, but Kerry pulled this gown off with ease.

Christina Hendricks in Christian Siriano

Christina Hendricks channeled Old Hollywood last night in this curve-hugging LBD by Christian Siriano. Not only did it fit her flawlessly, but the delicate flutter sleeves and lace overlay added to the gown’s vintage look. The Mad Men star added a pop of color by accessorizing with emerald green jewelry and a matching clutch. A wavy bob and classic red lip completed this retro-glam ensemble.

Kiernan Shipka in Delpozo

Kiernan Shipka always looks adorable on the red carpet and I was especially smitten by her Emmys ensemble last night. The 13-year-old (13!) Mad Men actress chose a fun and colorful floral print gown from design house Delpozo that featured a flouncy organza overlay skirt paired with a short-sleeved crew neck top. Kiernan complemented the age-appropriate frock with a high ponytail, minimal makeup, and a simple silver ring.

Other Notable Ensembles

Although we could chat about every single look from last night, there simply isn’t the space! So, we’ve narrowed it down to four more looks that made a major buzz on the red carpet.

Heidi Klum in Versace

Project Runway‘s Heidi Klum stepped out last night in this bold sequined gown by Versace. She wore the pomegranate-hued frock with matching stud earrings and a unique tiered ponytail. While some fashion commentators lauded Heidi’s ability to pull off any gown with ease, others weren’t so fond of the dramatic sequined neckline. What did you think of this look?

Allison Williams in Ralph Lauren

On the other side of the fashion spectrum, actress Allison Williams opted for an effortlessly elegant Ralph Lauren gown. Although the dress was no-frills, the gorgeous blue color made it stand out on the red carpet. Vintage Fred Leighton jewelry and a wavy ‘do added the finishing touches to Allison’s understated yet glam look.

Zosia Mamet in Custom Honor

Allison’s Girls co-star Zosia Mamet walked the red carpet last night in one of those looks that you either absolutely love or absolutely hate. Her custom Honor gown featured a unique watercolor print, which contrasted with black leather detailing around the bust line. Fashion commentators had differing opinions on this mixed material frock – some loved the fashion-forward vibe, while others thought the leather looked out-of-place and the fabric overwhelmed Zosia’s frame.
We think the mixed materials look is cool and fashion-forward, but would have preferred if the entire bodice was made from leather. Do you agree or disagree?

Jessica Paré in Oscar de la Renta

Mad Men‘s Jessica Paré rocked a fresh-off-the-runway gown from Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2014 collection to last night’s ceremony. With its high-low hemline, sculptural bodice, and fun turquoise hue, this dress has a whimsical vibe that Jessica accessorized with a pair of ankle-strap black sandals (also from OdlR). A tousled updo and sparkly drop earrings added the finishing touches to her ensemble.
Tell us what you think: do the shoes make the outfit or are you not loving the black-and-blue pairing?

Least Favorite Look

You know we can’t love everything that goes down red carpet. Here’s one look that I wasn’t a fan of at last night’s event:

Aubrey Plaza in Marios Schwab

Now, I love me some Aubrey Plaza, but unfortunately I didn’t love the gown she chose to wear on the Emmy red carpet. Between its high neckline and long sleeves, I thought the Parks and Rec actress looked a little too covered up in this lacy Marios Schwab grown. I did adore the multi-colored embellishments around the neck, although I felt they got lost amongst all the fabric and rick-rack trim around the bodice.
What did you think of Aubrey’s dress? Did her fashion risk pay off or was this look a major miss in your eyes?

Your thoughts?

Now that you know what we think, tell us your opinion. Did you watch the Emmys last night? What did you think of the red carpet fashion? Who wins your pick for best-dressed? Any looks you didn’t like? Be sure to leave a comment below and let us what you think!
